Ooh, I always love these threads.
So for me it was May or June of 2007, I was on Youtube looking up Lego stop motion or something like that, and my next recommended video was the famous
Awesome Lego House immediately followed by
Things to do in blockland.
So I was like "holy stuff, there's a lego video game that's not just the Traveler's Tales adventure game formula, but an actual sandbox like that game Garry's Mod?"
I sent the video link to all of my friends, including
WRB852 and then all four of us proceeded to pirate the game in order to play it without paying (sorry Badspot).
But! The pirated version, which somehow bypassed the master server and let you play online, was still just a cracked version of the demo and as such you could not actually save your bricks. So what we would do, when working on a build, whoever hosted would just leave their computer on all night with the server running and we'd all join again in the morning to complete our "epic city."
This lasted about a week before we all got super tired of losing our progress anytime one of us needed to shut down so we then decided to all beg our mother's for the $20 we needed to purchase a key, which the page at the time looked like this:

This was thankfully a success and the four of us all got real keys, with WRB852 buying his shortly before me, his ID being 1088 (our other friends got 1087 and 1089) and I was last and got 1090. I joined the forums on July 5th, 2007 and I
have only regretted it sinceloved every minute of it.
