Author Topic: What day did you buy the game?  (Read 595 times)

Was curious about how many of you remember the day you (or in my case, my parents) bought the game

September 27th 2010 (ID: 24924) for me, although I was asking them for at least two years to buy the game by the time they actually did (I was 6 in 2008)

Crazy to think that it's been nearly 16 years. Lots of memories are attached to this game. Do you remember the day, or at least the year, that you got this game?

i think it was either the day of, or shortly before i signed up for the forums, about a week max, so October 2009. i don't recall the exact date it took place, but i remember being little and begging my mom and dad for it, them acquiescing but being really wary of using a debit/credit card through the internet. had a lot of fun that evening, i barely knew what i was doing, but i was so happy.

I don't have a receipt on the exact day, but I remember my brothers' friend came over and let us play on his account with him. We were in a rando's deathmatch server where you hop from platform to platform pushing eachother off with pushbrooms. Idk what gamemode that was, but it wasn't rising lava. This was mid December of 2009, before Christmas. I'm pretty sure my Grandma bought it for me as a Christmas present, so I guess I'll just say that the day "I" bought it was December 25th, 2009.

Good times!

I dont remember the exact date, it was a couple days after retail's release though, I remember being frustrated that I didn't have the money the day of and ended up with a ~200 id instead of a ~100 but ah well.

When I first played though I can remember it was December 26th 2005 since literally the very next day after I got my first laptop for christmas I googled "online lego game" and found Blockland.

I was an autistic lego kid and an autistic computer kid and I saw that video (you know the one) in 2007. It was my destiny. I distinctly remember being 11, it was January and I was on winter break, and I had a sinus infection. I can still smell the sinus infection every time I open up v0002. (I promise this is a pleasant memory). Retail wasn't out yet when I found the game. I played v0002 on single player for months and didn't interact with the community at all. I didn't know online communities existed yet. Then one day after I had gotten sorta bored of it, I decided to check up on the website and suddenly there was Retail. Suddenly there was just a way better version of the game I've been playing completely out of nowhere. It was one of my mom's earliest online purchases.

Sometime in January 2010. BL_ID 18867. This forum account's an alt, RIP Faecdog.

The e-mail was sent to my mom's address and I don't have the screenshot anymore, so I don't know the precise date in January. I was not quite 10 at the time.

my first forum account was made in december 2007, so probably a month or two before that.

i remember i saw some cool video of somebody skiing on the roof(?) of bedroom or something, or outside the window maybe, and that made me really want the game.

you can filter searches by date on youtube and i am surprised at how much blockland machinima there was in 2008 :0 I found a comment I left on one of these from 18 years ago  :cookieMonster:

I have no idea. my ID is 10991 and I'm sure it's possible to extrapolate a rough estimate. but i am not the individual to do that so unless someone has already put in the work sometime in the past it will remain a mystery

That's crazy, you got the game on my b-day and I coincidentally also made your forum avatar years later. ITS FATE MAN!!

I don't remember the exact date I got my key since I lost access to that email quite a while ago, but I think it was some time in mid 2009? That would be the summer between my 8th and 9th grade year

Ooh, I always love these threads.

So for me it was May or June of 2007, I was on Youtube looking up Lego stop motion or something like that, and my next recommended video was the famous Awesome Lego House immediately followed by Things to do in blockland.

So I was like "holy stuff, there's a lego video game that's not just the Traveler's Tales adventure game formula, but an actual sandbox like that game Garry's Mod?"

I sent the video link to all of my friends, including WRB852 and then all four of us proceeded to pirate the game in order to play it without paying (sorry Badspot).

But! The pirated version, which somehow bypassed the master server and let you play online, was still just a cracked version of the demo and as such you could not actually save your bricks. So what we would do, when working on a build, whoever hosted would just leave their computer on all night with the server running and we'd all join again in the morning to complete our "epic city."

This lasted about a week before we all got super tired of losing our progress anytime one of us needed to shut down so we then decided to all beg our mother's for the $20 we needed to purchase a key, which the page at the time looked like this:

This was thankfully a success and the four of us all got real keys, with WRB852 buying his shortly before me, his ID being 1088 (our other friends got 1087 and 1089) and I was last and got 1090. I joined the forums on July 5th, 2007 and I have only regretted it sinceloved every minute of it.

july 18, 2013. still have my key e-mail lol. i became aware of the game back in 2011 and i played the demo a good bit with my tiny amount of demo bricks but i was only able to get my key post-v21 when my brother got it for me. i particularly remember watching the "when a noob doesn't listen" videos, the recreation of the mist, and why to buy blockland: 10 reasons
