Blackbeard was a loving bad ass. You can't say pirates aren't any good when you take a look at the kind of stuff Blackbeard did back in the day.

Before going into a battle he'd strap 12 revolvers on himself and wear a hat that was on loving fire to arm(light) the guns when he needed to.

In the end they cut off his head and dumped his body overboard, and his headless body swam around the ship. That was the kind of insanity pirates invoked back then.
