Dwarf Fortress

Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress  (Read 64512 times)

First look at this game I tried it and left it for the learning curve.  After reading more of the topic, I decieded to try it again.  I tried that one graphic pack, and truthfully, I hated it.  I retried with the default, and found that once you get used to it, it is quite nice.

After a LONG time, I finally settled on a place.  It has a brook and a magma intrusion.  It is a very steep, and small, area, and it is perfect.  I started on a somewhat mid level, and started digging my fort.  I now have food storage, several workplaces, a beracks, a dining area, and I'm starting on a second level for the rest of the storage.

Soon I'll be making a cavern for farming, and an underground resevour that I'll tap on the brook above.   I'll make it so that I can easily add more pipes to it.  Once immagrants come, I'll be starting a milletary so I can take out fire creatures and start a magma forge.

Bye life, nice knowing you ;D

Edit: I also have made my fort so that once I have free resources, I can impliment a semi conplex water trap to have water rush through the enterence and out the door.  I'll post pick if I complete it.

edit2: Any else notice the sounds are in .ogg format?

Here's a tip for dealing with those pesky fire creatures: wooden cage traps. You'll need a bit of preparations, and saving wouldn't hurt either in case something goes terribly wrong. What you can do is set up a multitude of cage traps in front of a lava vent, draft a dwarf and try to get the nasties to chase the dwarf over the traps. The danger here is that fire imps and fire men have a ranged fireball attack, so you'll need to have some sort of quick cover in the area. If a fireman/imp kills a dwarf, you can't tame it completely anymore (yes you can tame these guys, you need a dungeon master though). Once you capture them you can store them safely and indefinitely in any stockpile.

Thanks!

Also, does lava have pressure? (ie:would building a tunnel 8 Zs down from the vent that goes dirrectly into the workshop/fort be a bad idea?)

Supposedly it does not.

SCHWEET LAWD, AWESOME QUOTE.

"She has admired a completely sublime, tastefully arranged Trap lately."

My fisherdwarf, as she refers to one of my admant serrated deathtraps.

wood traps? you mean they don't burn though them?

Oh man, that was awesome.

Just awesome.

Snatcher! Protect the children!

The snatcher wanders into the gate and is immediately nailed by a Cage trap.

Now what should I do with it?

Yup, and wooden cages take no time to make at all, and the ingredient is wood.

Currently cage traps can capture anything except special Demons and Kobold thieves. You can even capture Megabeasts like dragons with cage traps.

Now what should I do with it?
Strip him of his clothing and throw him into a chasm or something

Bushido, throw him off into your dump.

Strip the goblin of their stuff, then release them in a big hole with caged bears and other such savage animals.

I ended up accidentally letting him go.

He fell into my spiked torture room trap of death, got nailed by a spike AND anvil at the same time.

Ker-pwned.

One of my recruits got possessed and took over a crafts workshop, and now my mason has begun working on a mysterious construction... maybe they'll be done before the human traders leave :D

EDIT: mistook mason for the possessed recruit D:

Oh and it was an ashen drum. Cool.
