Gold should be easy to make. Just use gathering professions and sell in the auction house. I have a level 40 horde that I started a week or two ago. He's made 700 gold already. I don't have any other horde, so I can't get gold from anywhere else but myself. I do have 3 level 80 alliance Toons, but I'm sick of them so I'm playing horde for something new before it all changes when the new expansion comes out.
Herbalism and Skinning. Gather everything you see, then sell it on the AH. Make sure you sell it for just less than what everyone else is doing, and you'll have so much gold you'll never be able to run out. Even when you get to Outland or Northrend, keep doing this. Once you hit 80, you can then just use the gold to level a more useful profession more suited for your class.
Don't do enchanting when you are making your first toon, it is one of the slowest and most annoying professions to level up, and it makes no gold since you have to use the mats you collect to level it up, so it only does you bad and no good.
Also don't forget about fishing and cooking. Level those suckers up or you'll wish you did when you hit 80. If you have those maxed out and are at 80, making gold is just that much easier. People pay loads for full stacks of high level food made from various fish.
Fishing is very easy to level up, you can go all the way to 300 in the city you start in now. If you find yourself watching TV, just turn WoW on and every commercial catch fish until it's over. You were already wasting this time anyway, so it's no more pathetic than watching TV anyway.
No need to have high levels run you through dungeons, you are not only wasting your own time, but somebody else's.
