Masterpiece engravings are a nightmare, if you end up mining them to make new rooms, the artist goes crazy.

Why would you engrave in a place where you MIGHT be digging...

The area where I made a large temple thing and made some lovely housing with an office and a dining room for a noble, then dUMBELLS, the mayor wanted the same because I had about 86 dwarves.

Assassination is always an option.

Sorry guys but the next update is going to run a little late. Family stuff over father's day pretty much consumed my day and now I need to go to bed early to go paint a house tomorrow.

I'll update tomorrow night though, so no worries.

Assassination is always an option.

Be sure that you give him a good tomb though, or he'll come back and haunt you.

Then he'll mandate things.

Expedition leader's log, unknown day

My good mechanic advised me to seek help today, he said I might be going insane. He can simply not see the grand scheme of things, his tiny speck of wisdom has difficulty grasping exactly what it is I am doing. Well then, dear scholers, let me educate you on the proper care of animals.

The sight of animals scurrying around, slowly wasting their lives and everyones' times was making me sick. And so, I decided to squeeze them all inside a tiny wooden cage in the hopes of filling them with rage, and eventually releasing them to decapitate our enemies. Indeed, I am truly great with animals.

The resident sasquatch grows bolder everyday, coming closer and closer to our mighty fortress. We will attempt to capture it in haste and hopefully use it to power our siege engines, or something.

dUMBELLS has been selected to lead the beast into a trap. Suddenly, we felt a cold gust of wind, it seems winter was finally at our doorsteps. No matter, preparations will continue and we will complete the Blood Tower and finally ensure our hold on this area.

The foul beast somehow got past dUMBELLS and is well into our fortress territories. Clearly, the mechanic had no idea what he was doing when he set those traps. I am fairly certain that he is at the heart of this problem yet again and will be punished later. For now, dUMBELLS gives chase to the beast. But it is strangely skittish and seems to be avoiding conflict, keeping a good distance. dUMBELLS eventually chases it out of the perimeter.

One of our dwarves is struck with a fey mood and proceeds to conquer one of our crafts shops. We shall harbor this dwarf naught but glory as he will hopefully create some kind of weapon... maybe? No matter, he will prove of much use once he's done, back on the farms of course.

Huh, we seem to have captured a mountain goat. Excellent, this relatively kindred animal will be stuffed in the Rage Cage and released onto the world later.

Oh terrific. Our mighty hero and savior built us a blazing wooden cup artifact of all things. There are many other things he could have done with that wood, like a barrel or something mildly useful, but nay. He makes a tiny bucket instead of anything even remotely useful. Farmlands seem to be a little to good for this nave, off to the war barracks with him!

Speaking of filth, we seem to have a small thief on our hands! There only seems to be one option, this thief must be destroyed! The dwarf that unveiled the thief was quickly drafted and gave chase.

My god this dwarf is agile! He caught up with the thief and proceeded to tear it's limbs off. Such ferocity! Who in the blazes is this dwarf anyways?... Ah, it appears to be my metalcrafter and apprentice mechanic. He will honor all of us with his bloodlust!

Excellent, he has smitten this vile creature. I will keep my eye on this one, he could very well be another potential recruit. Then again, he would be much more useful then that god forsaken mechanic of mine. Perhaps for now I will let him continue his work.

It seems we have even more uninvited guests! And just as the snatcher flees, having failed to nab the child no less, this kobold rears it's grotesque figure. I have a feeling this kobold will not be leaving however, as he stumbled onto another agile dwarf.

Ah, the thief now faces the embrace of sweet cold death, after having had it's head ripped off. I am extremely pleased with my dwarves' current military prowess, they all seem to be quite effective in making a blood bath of our enemies.

Amidst all the bloodshed, we managed to construct a forge, a wood furnace and a smelter. We desperately needed more axes to cut lumber, so we assigned the rather useless miller as our smelter/weaponsmith for the time being. We have also built a Siege workshop, in order to build catapult and ballista parts for no reason really.

We spend a few more days without any special event, reinforcing ourselves, making ourselves stronger. Finally, our catapult is finished, and the blood tower is one step closer to being an excellent weapon. I have set one of our peasents to start training in using it, by shooting at anything that moves on the ground. Hopefully he will hit something.

Now it is too cold to farm, and many dwarves are out of work. It is most unfortunate, but they will have to stand by until the weather warms up. We still have plentiful food to support ourselves until spring. A new exploratory mining operation was also comissioned, to give the miners more work. Hopefully we will find something this time.

And just as I was about to worry, we struck gold! Bless the miners, their efforts were not in vain. We will exploit this vein of metal later, for now we have more mining to do.

Wild animals seem to be running amok. Goats, sasquatches, even alligators are making their way closer and closer to the fortress grounds. Something must be done...

And as suddenly as it came, winter departs us and spring comes in it's stead. It seems a full year has passed since the beginning of my tyranny, but I feel we are one step closer to glory and more bloodshed. A proud year indeed for the hearty, bloodthirsty dwarves, and hopefully our years to come will be even richer.

And that's all guys, thanks for reading. Alright, who's next? And while I'm waiting for someone to yell at me for forgetting I'm going to get that Compressor thing and post the map.

I can take a turn now that I'm home from vacation if no one else is in line(but I think someone is).

Also, lol at blaming the mechanic for everything.

Pretty sure it's Monty, then Sheezy. Any objections from you both?

Probably better for me to go later, I still need more experience with not dieing from goblin ambushes.

Can I dismantle trade depots, or would that be classed as cheating?

Alright sent the save to Monty, now I'll try to get the compressor to work.

Can I dismantle trade depots, or would that be classed as cheating?

Yes, yes it would be cheating.

Upload the fortress here please, I want to see what it looks like.

If you feel curious, you could copy the save twice, abandon both go into adventure mode in one and check legends mode occasionally, you'll slowly find out about the world.

Edit:
Oh god, I looked at this fortress and cringed, Muffin, you've done a few silly things, including making worthless rock crafts, and you haven't even started mining the gold vein.
Also, dUMBELLS managed to bleed to death somehow, I'll have news on the death later.
Further edit: It seems that dUMBELLS managed to get themselves injured in a sparring accident, where she got mangled by the Marksdwarves' crossbow.
