In GMod it should say what version, like 1.0, 0.5b, or 0.9b.

Anyway, the one I was using apparently is borked by the update, but this one seems to be fine:

ok, question about garrys mod.
is this JUST a bunch of goofing around sand boxing? or is anyone making anything significantly fun to do.
i dont wanna get it if its just some junk

There are tons of mods and add-ons. And what do you mean by goofing around? You can do pretty much anything you can think of. Build a giant robot, make him move, build a helicopter, build a boat and have boat wars, play soccer, you name it.
The mods also range from whoever can grow the best garden and melon racing to surviving a bunch of zombies.
