I know your sheeting the hull, but do you plan to fiberglass it to? That helps get a nice finish and makes it very durable. Also helps during sanding because you don't have to worry so much about taking too much off.

I'll wrap it with thin strips, then fill it with something like bondo and sand it smooth. After I get it smooth, I'll apply the 2,000+ "steel" plates with very thin sheet metal with adhesive backing.

The steel plates can be seen to detail in this picture. This is a 1:48 scale 18' model built by Peter Davies-Garner

How do you plan to cut the plates? are they easy to cut?

Anyway, sounds cool. Got any special features planned? (like lights or moving parts) ?

No features. If they break, I'de have to disassemble the model to repair them. The plates will be HELL. Every one of them is shaped differently, even if not much.

I'm actually working on a 1/7 scale RC spitfire kit right now. Construction is similar to what your doing Bones, specially with the wings.

If its ok with you, I might make a thread about it later. I don't want to be stealing your thunder though.
