Is OOT really the Zelda fan favorite?

This is something I've been wondering about if people really this OOT is the "fan favorite", or is it one that just got allot of hype because it was the first 3d Zelda, and people haven't let go of it.

I <3 the old GBC Zelda games.
Currently playing Minish Cap. It doesn't have that same 'umph' that the others did.

See, thats what I don't get, I tried it, and ignoring graphics and such, I didn't find it that good, sure it is a good game, but what about the newer Zelda games, is it impossible to ever actually have better gameplay and story then OOT?

The thing is that old games tend to not be nearly as good as when they were first released.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting one of them(the GBC Zelda games) for my GBC.

Also, there can always be improvement, new gameplay features, improvement on old gameplay parts, extension by way of new weapons, dungeons, bosses, etc, generally things to do. Deepening the storyline helps too.

Thats my whole point.  People keep saying that OOT is best Zelda, ie "fan favorite", and that it can't be beat, but yet you say that it "It isn't as good as when it was first released."

Wind waker is the best one for me, I haven't finished any of them, but in Wind Waker I came almost to the end without getting bored by the gameplay like at all the other Zelda games.

My favorite is Majoras Mask, and secondly the one in GBC with the seasons. I didn't like oracles that much, Windwaker is probably my third favorite... and I'll stop there.

Its been done.

OOT had allot of problems which people forget, like HEY LISTEN HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY AHHHHHHHHHHHH STFU!!!!!! also the annoyingness of walking everywhere and saving your games and a crap load of other problems but it was still great, the fighting in the game was so much fun and simple to do, it pretty much became the new standard of modern games. However I personally loved LoZ: MM for the N64, most of the problems and crap they had one the first one was gone in MM, the scenery looked so awesome I just loved it. OOT was good but I didn't like it as much as MM.
