From what I remember, he does die, but he's revived through a demon. I haven't played WC3 in a while, I might play again to clear up my memory.

I don't remember that mission... I think I was on that jetpack and train mission, then I got tired of the game.

When Irk clan didn't work out in Blockland Retail was the saddest moment of my gaming history. :'(
