Author Topic: Can someone introduce me to FPS, and tell me why they're great?  (Read 1514 times)

It seems like the most popular and most played (and mostly released on XBox360) genre of game, is FPS. At first, I didn't like 1st person shooter. I hardly liked 1st person anything. mainly because I like to see what I'm playing as. but I didn't like FPS, because of these 2 reasons.

1: I thought all it was about was running around, shooting people, and nothing but, which sounded lacking to me.

2: I suck at FPS, especially when there's a sniper, and my fear of a FPS, was to constantly over and over again get sneaked up on and head shot by a sniper, or get head shot by a sniper that is far away, and that it would make me look bad, and make me look suckish at FPS, and get called a noob.

So, can you guys try and tell me the good things about FPS? can you tell me of some good 3rd person shooters? Can you tell me of some FPS for low-rate users or the Wii?

What's so special about FPS?

FPS = Fast Paced Superawesome

What that means basically is that when you're in an FPS you're able to feel as if your the character. And some times its funny as stuff to get sneaked up on by somebody and have them blow the forget out of you. You just laugh, and if you're lucky you capture the incident on your computer. :D

Plus Multiplayer is fun. And... you're gonna get called a noob at that no matter how good you are. So suck it. There are noobs out there who build themselves up by saying everyone in the game is a noob, that's usually the point where I blow his brains out with the stufftiest weapon of the game in a head shot. He usually shuts up after that.

A few good Starting FPS's would be:
Metroid prime series: Gamecube, Wii. these are the first FPS i ever played, a good starter, at least for me
DooM: PC, 3 for XBOX. i suggest the first two DooMs, the third one is NOT a good starter
Orange box: PC, XBOX360, PS3. Half-life 2 shows that not all FPS's are killing things, portal Shows that you don't always have to kill stuff in FPS's, And TF2 is a fun multiplayer game

yea also try games like The call of Duty series, not just 4 but 1 and 2 are also Excellent games and you can get 2 for the 360 very cheap. But dont get 3, honestly. Also, you might want to try Battlefield Bad company.

Battle Field Series = Epicwin
Half Life Series = Epicwin
Call o Duty seiries = Epicwin if the game is made by the "Good" devs.

FPS: the only genre that doesn't require but a smidgen of knowledge or intelligence to win, just a really spastic trigger finger.

First Person Shooter.

Only about 11 of them are "Great". But yonder developers will keep chugging out more. At least you can still trust Blizzard to be kickass and/or not put stuffty stuff on your computer.

Metroid primes a first person adventure, forgettards.

Half life 2.

And metroid prime is awesome too.

My favorite FPS is like 80

restate for epicness: half-life 2. affordable kick-ass game with good graphics and a great storyline.

Like anything else, you practice and you get better at them. If you have no interest, I see no reason to persuade you otherwise. So, stick to whatever you like and don't jump on the bandwagon.

And then you try HL2DM and it turns into quake. :cookieMonster:

I would start out with Halo: Combat Evolved. There isn't multiplayer, and it pretty much got me started on the right foot.

Playing FPS's with other people, as said before, takes practice.

CE has multiplayer, I have it.

The PC version does, anyway. But even then, the gameplay in it is simple. It can be difficult, though.
