Morrowind's better.  I wish Arena worked well on my computer.

Thats an personal opinion, not a fact.

I prefer Oblivion simply because of 2 things:

1) it doesnt look like ass, and 2) it relies on hitboxes rather than dice rolls, which makes absoloutely no sense in a first/third person RPG where the weapon clearly moves through the target.

I like Oblivion mainly because of what Nige said, and the fact that you can make your character look like Ronald McDonald if he had just been released from jail.

Oblivion = bettar graphix, it has voices for all characters, you turn into a ragdoll when you get knocked out or killed, you can pick up things and it actually has physics, better controls, overall = winrar

Actually, Oblivion is not better.

In case you didn't know, Tamriel was based off of the developer's D&D story. It would make sense to have Morrowind use similar mechanics when fighting instead of hitboxes. And if my sword goes through a person but doesn't hit them I don't throw a tantrum, I use my imagination to imagine the guy parrying me or dodging.

And while Oblivion may have all these aesthetic things, it doesn't change the fact that the world lacks content, and it doesn't have the overall charm Morrowind has.

If all you care about is something that looks good, then Oblivion could be considered better. But if you wanted to have fun exploring the vast area of Morrowind for hours, or perhaps journeying to the cold desolate island of Solsthiem (I think that's the islands name), and encounter barbarians and wolves, then Morrowind is indeed the better game.

I for one am not a shallow gamer, so I don't really care if a game has decent or next-gen graphics.

For y'all who are fighting over what's best, I recommend this:

http://www.squidoo.com/morroblivion

It solves the issues of those of you who favor graphics and the combat system, and doesn't rip (that I know of) the content that the original Morrowind has that Oblivion doesn't.

you're a bit late to the game, fallout 3 is coming out soon. not exactly next in the series but its basically a futuristic oblivion. its a great game though

no, its Fallout 3

Not Oblivion: Modern Warfare

It requires you to have both games, also a lot of stuff doesn't transfer, and you don't get the older magic system.

I don't play Morrowind that much... I was just pointing out what was good about Oblivion. Now Morrowind may not have that advanced stuff, I'm not saying that's bad. I actually like Morrowind, but it could use a few more things like the ragdolls and stuff, but it's okay that it doesn't. I like both games. Oblivion doesn't have half the places you can adventure to in Morrowind, so that's what I like about Morrowind. Oblivion catches my interest because it has better looks, that's what I like about it.

I would play Morrowind if I could stand the sub-par graphics, but I do agree that Oblivion is the lesser game content-wise.

Plus a few texture mods and your good to go!

I won't comment on Morrowind (well ok I will later) since I haven't played it but I have to say that Oblivion isn't perfect.

The game (Oblivion) looks nice but abuses some elements of graphical design (like using rotating billboards for the leaves on a tree) and has some real texture tiling problems with terrain. The game isn't very efficient and requires decent hardware to run it and is prone to crashes and glitches depending upon your settings and how long you play. Combat is fairly repetitive and you can pass through the entire game using one skill set/weapon/spell set. I could go on with the flaws of Oblivion, but yahtzee has already covered most of them in his review (especially about the repetitiveness).

As for Morrowind...the screenshots give me the impression that the game looks like stuff. The standard seems about equal to the Tribes2RPG mod in terms of quality and level of detail. Gameplay sounds rather dull if it really does use dice rolls and random chance for every loving thing that happens. I have heard that the game has lots and lots of spells and weapons to use, but it should really be quality over quantity. Depth isn't about having 1000 types of sword, its about having a few, distinctly different weapons that allow plenty of room for player choice.

Just sit in a box with your eyes closed. That'll entertain you.

What we all have to keep in mind here is that Morrowind was made BEFORE Oblivion. You can't really blame it for having sucky graphics. It was considered OK for it's time. (I think)
