Recently I decided to redownload Half life 2 DM and steam. I want to know if I will be able to play with other Gmod 10 players If I download Gmod 9 which from memory is free.

Gmod 9 is buggy, outdated, there's no more mods, and the answer to any problems you have for it is: Buy Gmod 10.
