the inspiration was obviously mega bloks.
badspot was raised in a poor family and they couldn't afford the quality danish plastic of lego. instead, he got mega bloks.
blockland stemmed from his constant frustration with bricks breaking when he tried to pull them apart because of their cheap, chinese plastic.

no, its not 'so cool' the games are stuff. they are all just lego based games, which you could easily find some non lego version of the game that is much better somewhere else.
