To be a lawyer, you need to master a little something called the art of Rhetoric. All Law really is is how the rules are interpreted and then communicated. You can present a completely valid argument but have it fail because someone else re-interpreted your basis of argument (a common tactic) and then presented their own argument. They persuaded everyone to buy his argument over yours by twisting words in your mouth or using other tactics.
It's a game, and the best persuader will usually win. That's why, even if you think you're safe, you definitely loving aren't.
