The most popular kinds of weapons seem to come in several generic kinds, all of which I seriously hate.
Death Guns:- Sniper Rifles
- The "Headshot" weapons
- Everything Gikon has made
Guns which instantly kill people. Most are abusable. Most existing sniper rifles can be glitched with the 'Q Q' glitch, which allows you to fire the rifle about three times a second. The "Headshots" mod effectively turns the Bow and Gun into rapid-fire instant death weapons, as each shot would do 6x damage if it hits the upper part of your body. 12x if you're crouching.
Slightly Inaccurate Machine Guns:- See
ListThese seem to be really popular. Each one does about ten damage a shot and shoots five times a second. There are millions of these. Yes, everybody loves stealing the "LOL, IT SPREADS" code from the Sawn-Off Shotgun, and then releasing their "brand-new" machine gun that does pretty much exactly the same thing except more unfair. The only decent one I have found is Kaje's Minigun, but the 'recoil' it has allows you to fly around the battlefield at massive speeds firing at anything and everything.
Acronym Guns- AK47
- M4A1
- G36
- P90(s)
- CC series
- CS4 series
- FTK series
- Everything Gikon has made
Your weapon is not cool because it has a fancy acronym. I kind of want to know what sort of
thing I'm about to use when spawning it or whatever - how can I differentiate the CC150s from the CC17, the CS4, the CC45 or the CC87AS? I'm not a gun expert, and I don't want to have to be to know what the exact difference between the AK47, the 10mm HV Penetrator and the P90's are. Actually, I don't need to, because all of those are Slightly Inaccurate Machine Guns. While not acronyms, how am I supposed to determine the function of a
Ra over that of a
Cobra or a
Kraken?
Realistic GunsIf every weapon I use is some grey, brown and black blob then they all get very boring, very quickly. Look at the weapons that come with Blockland - the Rocket Launcher is bright green. The Guns Akimbo are blue. A lot of the recent weapons are just a mess of black, grey and brown "detail" that is annoying and useless. Weapons should look like they fit with the game. The only things I have seen that decently use the Blockland style are Ephialtes', Kaje's and TheGeek's models.
Massive WeaponsSome of the realistic weapons mentioned seem to take up your entire screen. I usually aim from first person. If the entire gun takes up half my screen, it's hard to do so. If you then produce a
dual wielded version that obscures the entire view, it becomes utterly useless.
Broken WeaponsI'd estimate that about half of the weapons posted on the forums are full of errors. I've seen people with "released" weapons getting Buffer Overrun errors and not understanding because somebody couldn't be bothered to fix their code before they release it. Even when I try to install only the
decent weapons, my console fills with errors for "could not find texture" problems. I don't like console errors. This is an extract from the console log of a server I recently joined:

Just because it appears to work when you see it in-game doesn't mean it's fully ready. Try to make weapons that actually work with the game.
All of those errors could have been avoided if people had packaged their Add-Ons correctly and included the files which they actually use.
Unoriginal Weapons- Miniguns
- Machine Guns (dozens)
- Revolvers
- Shotguns
- Sniper Rifles
- Flamethrowers
- Grenades
- RPGs
There are at least two and probably more varieties of each of these weapons. If somebody has already made a weapon that fills the type of weapon you are making, don't release another one unless you
really think yours is better. It's not necessary and just useless when everybody is using exactly the same gun but with a "different" brown and grey model to accompany it.
Bad Ports- HE Grenade
- Sawn-Off Shotgun
It's not so much of a problem now, but occasionally I see servers which still use the really old ports of these mods. Usually they're completely broken with textures and CIs missing or features entirely removed/broken. Somebody decided they'd "improve" the old Shotgun and make it fire about twenty bullets and quarter the reload time so it becomes extremely imbalanced against everything else. Don't download this sort of thing unless it's an official re-release, because they actually know how the weapon is supposed to work and how to correctly port it to new versions of Blockland.
Really Loud WeaponsTry to fix your weapon's sounds before releasing it. I do not want to have my speakers blown out every single time somebody fires their machine gun next to me. When using the weapon, especially if it's rapid-fire, I don't want a repetitive annoying drone stopping every other sound. I shouldn't have to turn down my volume to simply join most servers (especially since in most cases I have music playing at the same time) because of one gun in it that people insist on standing near me and firing at my head for attention.
Identical Edits- Spells Pack
- RPG Weapons Pack
One 'Sword' is enough. Maybe two or three, if each have several distinguishing features. We don't need ten identical swords that all are the same except for maybe a slight tint and damage rating. A deathmatch isn't going to need the "Bronze Sword" over the "Iron Sword" if they all do the same thing. Every 'magic spell' in the released pack seems to be exactly the same except for a difference in particles. Are all of them
really needed? How much does the screen-destroying "Ice Blast" actually add to the experience of the game?
... Creators, try to
think before making and releasing your new weapons. Please.
