Author Topic: Version 10 will not work for me  (Read 2575 times)

As some may know. I have disappeared for about 1 year. I decided to try to play the game after all this time, and went to download the latest version, but when I try to run it, its just a blank box and nothing happens.

My computer does not suck; my video card does not suck; Drivers are up to date on everything. I can run WoW at 60fps (which is a very demanding game). So please tell me why version 10 does not work.

Also, after attempting to run the game, and being forced to close the .exe forcibly, the computer at this point has the hard drive slow to a halt. This only happens if I try to run Blockland version 10. I have never had a problem on this computer with any other program, and by looks of things, it is in perfect working order, so something clearly is wrong with the game and/or in combination of what is on my computer. The only new thing from when I left, is the fact that I'm running vista, rather than XP.

I'm running Vista with the following specs.
8500GT Nvidia video card (plays WoW at 60fps)
1GB Ram
AMD 4800+ Dual core processor
80gb hd
60gb hd

wow hey trash man

here try this: copy your add-ons folder and key.cs then reinstall bl v10 then put the cs and add-ons back in try now

Thanks for trying to help, but I don't think that is the problem. I don't have any previous version of Blockland on the computer as I had to wipe my hard drive at some point in my absence (which is why I'm on Vista now rather than XP). I'm going to try a few things, maybe it's not just the video drivers that is the problem.

sometimes is visas fault take my word for it

You have to give permissions to all of your files and folders. I think.

Its in Public. This folder is an exception in Vista. Also, permissions was only an issue in XP if you had chosen the option to protect your files. This issue is not present in Vista. Vista does have an account protection feature, but it can be disable (which it is).

The program clearly seems to argue with my current setup in some way. I've now verified that all my drivers for everything are indeed up to date.

Sorry for the double post. But I think I have an idea after reading on via a search.

It seems I may be one of the MANY unfortunate people, who's specific video card's drivers for vista, Do not work for this specific game. That's OK, though, I'll just continue to play other games that do work.

At least I tried to come back.. If anyone has an answer to my problem (not just guessing around), then I may still come back. But for now, it's not worth the hassle. If I could go back to XP, I would, but its not an option, because I had to go to Vista for a reason.

Run as administrator, or right click the folder, hit properties, then hit "security"
Hit "Change Permissions" And check all of them, then apply.

Once again, this is not the issue. I opened it anyway, and it allready allows full access to everything.

However, while I slept on it, I have one crazy idea but have no idea how to implement it. It really looks to me like its how OpenGL is working with my vidcard in vista.. I know the game has ANOTHER choice than OpenGL, but by default it runs in OpenGL. Can somebody show me how to make the game run in the other choice without opening the game itself? I have a feeling this could work if I were able to edit whatever file it is that makes it run in the last settings you chose.

In case I didn't mention before, its like the game WANTS to work, but won't because there is no picture. The game opens fine, its only that I see nothing, and again I researched my problem and apparently its vista and certain video cards and OpenGL that lead to problems that sound exactly like mine.

So please, guys, stop trying to tell me its permissions problems. It's not.

Well, the setting you're looking for is here.
I'm not sure if it works or not though, since I haven't tried it.

Open up config/client/prefs.cs
Go to line 232 / look for the following and change it:

Quote
$pref::Video::displayDevice = "OpenGL";

OK, now all I need to know. is the exact name of the other choice. I think it was DirectVideo or something like that, but I gotta be sure before I just throw it in there and start Blockland.

So, all somebody has to do, is go to the game, see what the name of the other choice is, and tell me.

Well, there's no other choice for me. :/

OK I found the other choice I have for my video card (Direct3D), but the file path you mentioned (config/client/prefs.cs) Does not have any files in it.

I tried punching in the command in the console, but it crashed Blockland when I did it and the video card also crashed.

I can run WoW at 60fps (which is a very demanding game).
Hahahah nice joke, Yeah those flat cartoony graphics are the most demanding thing i ever played

Good luck even getting it to work on a old computer!

I guess you've never played the PVP feature of WoW at max level. where there can be over 100 players (on popular realms) killing each other with massive spells.

Yeah, the game in single player when you do quests, is not very demanding, any any piece of stuff computer can play it even at 30FPS with no video card.. But when you want to do the real stuff in the game, it is a whole different story, and if the computer you have sucks balls, you won't get past 1 fps in intensive situations WoW.

Make sure you actually have played a game before you go judging it.
