For a beginners model it is good, my beginner models where terrible. To start learn the Three Point Lighting. It will make your models good or bad, look better. Also as others pointed out it has too many polys at the base. Isaw you made the center of it smooth, I would leave it flat, but thats just my opinion. Good job for a beginner. Keep working at it and you'll be a good modeler. Check out Blender Cookie for some well done tutorials.
