that's what I was using, I seperated the land and ocean then added a hair particle system to the land, the problem is that even when using a force field in the center of the planet I can't seem to manage to get all the trees to stick in the angle they would on a normal planet.
I've never used force fields for anything. I would only use those for physics simulation.
Make a hair particle system.
Check advanced under hair.
Make the hairs duplicate objects and check rotation under that object name field.
Check rotation and change orientation to normal.
In velocity change normal to 1 and adjust the particle size in the physics category.

Weight paint + vert groups for specifying density.
