I have Red, and Yellow.  I remember the days, when every afternoon I would come home, get my Gameboy, and sit on my front porch and play Pokemon Red until the sun set.

Originals were awesome.
Qft. :3
I also remember first getting Stadium, and hooking up the game and save file up to it. :O
Which also reminds me of the super gameboy for the SNES.

I did the same thing. I practicly learned to read on Red after annoying my parents by making them read me the intro with oak. But I gave Red away to my little bro when I got Yellow. Never got quite as far. Then I got Silver. I played that practically 24/7. We went camping at Cedaer Point and I pretty much stayed in the camper the whole time playing. But now my internal battery is dead, so no more saving...

My internal battery is dead for my gameboy color too :( and I never finished pokemon yellow version ;_;

I'm guessing there's a second battery inside the Gameboy that keeps the save data bank on so it won't be lost.

but the save data saves on the game cartridge

The battery is in the cartridge. I'm pretty sure you could even see it on the transparent cartridges.

I never really liked the pokemon selection in yellow.
