Should I do the weight painting before or after I parent the mesh to the bones?

Also, When I go to parent them (im in object mode, is that correct?) I only get the option to parent to object or armature in the pop up box; you said parent the mesh to the bones, so I assume you meant armature, right? Or am I doing this wrong?

Yes i meant armature. After you choose armature do create bones from heat and it should weight paint it automatically.

x_x thanks lol. But when I do that... Im having some problems. Look at this:

This is where my model is normally....

this is what happens when I pivot the bone. Is there any way to make it not seperate like that? D:

I'm having a very hard time beleiving you made that.

You didn't make that, it's from World of Warcraft.

Did I ever say I did? Besides, thats not even relevant to the situation, now is it? Yes, its from WoW. Someone made it in Wings 3D and I am rigging it and making it a playertype. So what? Im not releasing it anyways, so just stfu so I can get some help, alright?

Well, Im assuming you meant to say you did by you posting that.

Sorry for the wrongful accusations though.

Soz for that. Just stop bumping so someone answers it :c

But will weight painting it afterwards do anything to help with deformation issues such as the problem I have above? Also, with weight painting, the reddish colors indicate that it moves less and the Blue indicates that it moves more, correct?

Red makes it move more and blue makes it move less. Also, try going into the mesh of the dragon and doing Ctrl V>remove doubles. Might help it from separating.

Thanks, i kinda figured it out tho. also the weight painting does effect it :3 but Im sure you knew that. Thanks for the help, but I think Ive got it from here on C: (*Knock on wood*)

Is it safe to parent the armatures to detail32 before you animate the model? Is it possible that doing it after animating may mess up sequences?

k. Also, if I want the playertype to be rideable (like the horse) what do I name the mount for the player?
