That's the idea. GUIs make it more cool, official, etc. People saying "Truce k?" in chat is meh. Awesome GUIs are shweet.
imo
What does everyone else think?
I mean, if you are not firing at them then you are 'allied' with them. More fast-paced and 'survival', not 'build the awesome overpowered clan of people in an alliance' who go and dominate everybody.
Ideas for the Radio:
- Radio Tower bricks can only be placed within a certain radius (quite large) of other existing ones.
- They can be destroyed by being shot at several times or being hammered by the owner. Bricks that are disconnected from the main spawn point or some central area are coloured grey until re-connected.
- Using Team Chat will give players a randomly generated 'Radio Number' between 0000 and 9999.
- This can be adjusted with slash commands or the Brick placement keys without a temp brick. (Left/Right = +/-1, Forwards/Back = +/-10, Up/Down = +/-100)
- Players connected to you through tower bricks, and within 20 IDs of yours can hear messages in Team Chat. If you are not exactly on the number, it recieves static (parts blanked out as well as the last two digits of the ID recieved)
- If you are physically near another player using the Radio/Team Chat, you can see their radio ID for listening in on their conversations/espionage.
- Perhaps being outside a certain number of tower bricks also causes degradation in the signal/messages. (e.g. if you are ten kilometres away you will receive less clearly than a few metres away)
I think the system (alliances + Radio) should encourage people to band together in small groups, either for their own gain or working with others. Alliances should change quickly (hence no GUIs) and be temporary, friendly fire and the like will always be 'on'.
