Hey grats on surviving your first raid, that's usually what does fortresses in if they're not prepared for it.
Yea, the wrestlers helped, only a few actually came through my yet to be finished drawbridge entrance, my dwarfs killed one or two of the seven goblins.  Too bad the fisher dwarf got caught outside...

I forgot to mention this: Yesterday while playing I had a bit of irony.  I was building an small lake just off the stream into my fort.  I was building a grate connected to a lever, so after my miner broke into the river, he could escape, then close off the water access to keep anything that swims coming through.  The tunnel just was being finished, and I ordered the building of the grate.  One of the immigrants got the job, and ended up building the grate over his exit, leaving him stuck in the tile big area at the end of the tunnel.  He was a trapper, and the only thing he has trapped is himself.

These things that happen are what make dwarf fortress such an awesome game, because a smilie face above a "#" has so much story along with it.

I must not be good at this game
My fort flooded :(

It's difficult not to flood your fortress. Be glad it wasn't magma.
Heck, I've had problems with the entire world flooding with magma, especially when I turned off weather when it was raining; the murky pools just kept on overflowing until the entire valley got turned into a 4-layer lake.

Silly trapper, these kinds of stories are always hilarious. The bonus is maybe your engravers will make an engraving about that somewhere too.

I just got attacked by 2 snatchers and 2 thieves at once.

Naturally, their limbs went flying as my marksmen fired their crossbows.

You have struck Star Sapphire!

Nice, just make sure to only let miners who always get the stone to mine it, no need to waste shiny things.

It was just one piece.

Still very awesome though.
My entire fort is bauxite, chalk, and magnetite.
I also have lignite stores.

As a result, I am in a very good position. I can make steal easily, everything I make has a 2x material modifier due to chalk, and there are lots of sapphires in the bauxite.

Lost my fort to Goblins :(

2 raid parties, mostly bowman/crossbowman, they pretty much tore up my military. I'm bringing dogs next time.

Oh well already found a new site and so far I have 5 layers of precious Sedimentary rock, those are the White named layers and they are the ones that give you precious Magnetite spots and bauxite spots (Chert layers, not flux but good enough for me). The map is interesting especially for the black sand everywhere, this should be fun

Some advice for anyone new to dorfs, give up the starting anvil and bring Dogs, lots and lots of dogs. Have your Idlers train all those dogs into wardogs, that will keep you pretty damn safe for a while.

Still, Star Sapphire has a 1% chance of occurring in an existing sapphire cluster, and I think gems and/or ore have a higher chance to drop their respective stones/gems/ores than normal rock.

Unfortunately, because I generate my worlds with 100/100 volcanism, I never get any sedimentary stone, but I do get a magma pipe on every region.  :cookieMonster:

I have a population of 53 now, and I'm starting to wonder if the goblins are ever going to show up at my doorstep.

Is there a way to check?

Also my pumps are finally working :D

Check your neighboring civilizations, the hotkey is "c"

If you haven't had an ambush by now then most likely there are no goblins. Wage war against the elves!

I believe that only shows civilizations you've encountered though, so if they haven't attacked, they may not show up.

That also makes me think of the upcoming update, I can't wait to raise an army and attack goblins in their own house, instead of always waiting for the fight to come to us.

Well you can always set up next to a goblin fortress but it's probably one of the hardest things to do in the game, next to setting up in a sinister area with a few skeletal giant eagles and undead carp.

On a side note, I accidentally discovered a little something something (again) and my king arrived prematurely as usual. That's all fine and dandy, so what's special about this then you might ask?

The King's a loving GOBLIN! Not sure what to make of this at all, but it's awesome so I'll just roll with it.

You need to duplicate your save file as a back up just because that is so cool, and post that on the official dwarf fortress forums.  That's just too cool.

I either think it is a glitch, or by some chance your origonal dwarfs were from actually dwarfs snatched by child snatchers as kids, then raised under goblin rule.  Either way that is just epic.

What happens if you get a goblin king to attack along in a siege?!?

Also, any other goblins, or just him?

I have no idea, looking at the civ chart it seems the dwarf civ has a stuffload of goblin generals and such. Also the king is kind of a military badass with all skills in swords/wrestling and armor. King owns.

Saving anyways, I had it on pause to take a few screenies.
