Author Topic: Need PC upgrade support.  (Read 2754 times)

I finally have 3 gigs of RAM, after a "GeekSquad" guy opening my computer. He added 3 gigs of RAM, and then he said that I could add a Graphics card after he found out that I have a PCI slot (PCI, not PCI-E). After looking at the graphics cards. I was discouraged because I had a limited option of them. Are there any graphics cards that support PCI that are above Nvidia 8400?

Most nVidia are PCI-E. If you don't have any PCI-E slots then you should conceder getting a new computer, especially since you're not using a graphics card.

The best PCI card out there is GeForce 6200.

Though it's horrible compared to newer cards.

I would strongly advise you not to get the 6200, but to wait and save up for a whole new motherboard with PCIE slots, and just basically save up for a whole new computer. (As probably if you only have PCI slots, then you'll have an old CPU.)

My whole computer (which is running smoothly) cost $758.05, worth every penny.
I went from a Dell Dimension 2400 to my new custom built computer. (Building your own is worth it.)

Garry's Mod..to..Garry's Mod
Mutliplayer..to..Multiplayer
40 Players..to..50 Players
UltraLow..to..UltraHigh Settings

I have the same CPU and amount of RAM as Jsk, except a 9800GT and 230 hard drive space and a 1024x768 LCD monitor.

Ultra high settings on all source games ftw.

You need atleast one ram.

who said he needed to own a godly part? if the rest of his comp is old or standard, why pressure him to only use high end pci-e parts?
this card WILL play any game.
even med settings depending what it is.

Look at the comments.

there are cons for every item on newegg. thats not even helpful.

im tired of kids being told they must buy a whole new computer in these forums.
there are a dozen more decent PCI cards he could use also.

you want him to believe hes got no choice, ignoring his needs completely.
it only shows a lack of computer knowledge on your part, not impressing him like you thought.

dud do wat i did get the megafurce19939! ITS OVER 9000!!
On a more serious note, I agree with Bisjac

i wasn't even aware there were so many PCI cards with 512vram.
that's pretty damn good for a budget part

If more than 50% voted 2/5 or under, it's obviously a risk to get it.

Sorry, but when I bought my GeForce 6200 a long time ago, it seemed that Nvidia and ATI stopped caring for PCI-slot owners as there wasn't a PCI card out in a long time. I didn't see that afterwards they released Geforce 8400GS and Radeon HD2400 Pro.
He said "better than 8400". So I would guess he already has an 8400GS, in fact, why didn't koolkody tell us what his current gpu was?
If he already has an 8400 then there's almost no room to upgrade, so the next step would be to get a new computer.

.

I'm sorry that I didn't add enough information. The reason I asked for a graphics card better than 8400 is because I was planning to buy it.
