Why do creepers seem way more common than other monsters in caves?

On the surface, I get tons of skeles, zombies, and a minority of creepers and spiders. In caves, all I get are creeps and zombies. odd.

i'm only getting skeeltons and zombies down below :o

That is so weird, I have an abundance of creepers in this one cave (called Creeper Cave...) and also lots of zombies. Skeletons are (unfortunately) the next most common, and then spiders. I hear them, though.

And speaking of Creeper Cave (did I mention it's ginormous?)

Okay, that hole split into three ways. One was a dead end, with a tiny hole leading to some water and more darkness. I'll dig through it later. The other connected to the hole with water in it, and the last passage splits off:



Now which way?

Also, I'm gonna run out of torches soon...
