It's working good, boats are a little laggy but that's about it.

Item physics are buggy as hell
No matter how much bandwidth the host has, the server still lags
Enemies appear farther than they actually are
The floating TNT glitch is still in effect

I'd say you'd want to wait it out until all the major glitches are smoothed out before you play somewhere. Right now nothing does SMP justice.
