No they don't do releases on fridays since if theres a bug or something then they would have to come in on the weekend and fix it.

How will th crosshair register in different texture packs? I like dots as my rectile, the default is a huge +. Do they only react to the center of the crosshair?

What do you mean? Each texture pack can change the crosshair, which is the thing in the center. It can be any symbol or image.
