Wow, I've never seen a cooler picture of 2 cows!

They are new, Mountain biomes were added in 1.8.

I always used to find cool mountains in my old worlds though.
I guess now you just get bigger mountain ranges and stuff, I actually don't like the mountain biomes though, they have sparse foliage and I like it when mountains were covered in trees.

It's something to do with the site.

I think both kinds exist because I've seen both (and I think in the 1.8.1/1.8, though I might've been 1.8 pre2 and 1.8)

They changed them from green to purple/pink in full 1.8. You saw both because they were green in the prerelease.

You heard wrong. Persistant mobs aren't going to work like that, and will be added in 1.9 I'm guessing.

Anyway, I can't get any passive mobs to spawn on my island. Might have to make some trips. :(

where the forget is a 1.8.1 server at
