Not sure you can replace it unless you change how it writes out. Also, they're used for the particle effect of letters flying from nearby bookshelves to the Enchantment table.

The image file contains the characters.  Edit the characters, it edits the font in-game in a texture pack format.

BTW, new dimension is officially The Ender.

I already mentioned The Ender... Although I said apparently. Also, I'm saying you can't simply replace the characters and it becomes readable. It's formatted like the language. You'd need to change it to generate in English.

I stand corrected on the Ender release but you're not making any sense.

If I edited "alternate.png" and put the Latin alphabet instead of the silly characters Mojang is using, then the Latin alphabet will appear in the Enchanting letters, both the flying letters and the actual enchanting screen.

I tried packing up a texture pack where I replaced the alternate.png with the default.png, but none of the letters are changed. Either it won't allow you to switch fonts with a texture pack, or the characters used on the table and from bookcases isn't those. Likely the former.

I got this seed, 3579342094020312778 which will spawn me in a snowy biome right next to 2 glass pillars. The one farthest away leads me into those rooms with lava and that portal. I repaired the portal and now I do not know how to open it. D:

Yep. You can only switch fonts by directly changing it in the .jar. The text is a bit odd. I put in a diamond sword and got:

• air berata hot
• twist creature
  humanoid limited
• demon the fiddle
  enchant
• shorten fire animal light
• other imbue inside
• the earth creature
• grow limited air dry
• limited cube
  human galvanize
• shorten fire
  physical towards

Edit: I think Notch gets off to this stuff:

• berata light shrink (12)
• animal wet bless (11)
• inside shorten
  inside (10)

"klaatu" occurs sometimes. The only place it comes up elsewhere is some music group in Canada... C418 is going to be mad.
