this seems like a very stupid idea

it would be annoying messaging your friends every time you play minecraft

for the person doing it too, because that person could have a couple hundred friends and it wouldn't be worth the effort

so what, people know you're playing minecraft, if it's that important-

you know, it's funny, because if it were that important, you would be messaging people, haha

I figure it lets people know why I may not be responding right away or that it's really not convenient to start a long conversation right then, plus on the off chance someone's looking to play SMP they'll see I'm in-game and either come join or invite me

i'm always able to pause and respond instantly on the rare chance I feel like talking, and i really don't like to play SMP with others, especially close friends.

Weird, I have no trouble using the steam overlay with 64-bit java and minecraft.

hey guys. guys, hey. hey guys. steam is loving useless when you're playing minecraft because minecraft is standalone. if messaging all your friends with "yourname is playing minecraft" is so important, feel free to waste electricity and RAM on something you're not using. I much rather use skype and youtube, because i actually use those when i play.

Unless you need to keep in touch with all of your internet buddies via steam because all of them will assume you've been hit by a truck while you're away or you enjoy playing the witcher and minecraft at the same time, there is no reason to keep steam open. it's like running your radio in your car while taking a stuff in your bathroom.
