Yeah, cause Skype, youtube and steam don't use 4GB, do they?

I have minecraft allotted to 3GB to keep FPS spikes lower when loading chunks.

I have steam, skype, a youtube video and itunes up and idling at 3.5GB.

itunes uses a lot, and most likely the web browser

So apparently you can manually set (some) entities to be invincible. In a later patch, all/most entities should be covered by this. :cookie:

yay

also is there a mod that stops entities, such as items on the floor, stop spinning/bobbing?

Unless you need to keep in touch with all of your internet buddies via steam because all of them will assume you've been hit by a truck while you're away or you enjoy playing the witcher and minecraft at the same time, there is no reason to keep steam open. it's like running your radio in your car while taking a stuff in your bathroom.
6 gigs of ram not enough? Sir what the forget is wrong with you

I have 4 gigs of ram, Minecraft only needs two and that's being generous. I run two monitors, with Skype, Steam, Mumble, Winamp and Chrome (which generally has six to eight tabs open at least), and I don't suffer any performance hits for it even on far render distance.

If you're having performance issues with Steam and Minecraft running at the same time, maybe you should stop whining about your memory and consider getting a multicore processor.

Apparently 1.4.2 is out. I am on my phone and am about to go to bed, so I cannot confirm this. It says it on minecraft.net though

Confirmed

Just made a new MultiMC instance and it pulled 1.4.2

more like

everyone else was playing the snapshots and they didnt spoiler their posts

now i can't find the new content on my own

Frankly I think it's well time work was put into polishing the existing content rather than adding more.

New lighting system
Spiders/other climbing mobs actually rotating to the surface they're climbing on
Slabs/stairs being moved to a generic block extension system (ie, making a slab/stair version of any generic block type is possible and the slab/stair version will inherit the properties of that block - that way, we won't have the whole dealie with wooden slabs actually being stone for ~6 updates after their creation, maybe longer)
Glass Panes/Iron Bars/Fences connecting to the solid sides of stairs (pretty sure this was also part of the lighting changes that got rolled back - I swear I heard tell of this being done)

Then full steam ahead on actually implementing the necessary hooks/documentation for the modding API

Dropshock still apparently watches the topic.
Also, new update is awesome. It adds [even more] things worth playing for.

You don't grasp the concept of "more stuff=more electricity" beleive it or not, steam actually, get this, NEEDS ELECTRICITY TO RUN. HOLY stuff!

The electricity difference is so minute, it's not even worth mentioning.

>implying 6gigs of ram can run all of those things and minecraft without running two of them slowly.

I have 4 GB and it's plenty. Minecraft doesn't need more than 1 GB for me. Your CPU is probably a piece of stuff.
