FTB is better for a few basic reasons:
1. It isn't a bunch of ports
2. It's supported by the mod developers
3. It actually has multiple good modpacks, not 1 "good" one
4. It's a much more refined, mature community
5. Soon FTB will also include Maps and Texture Packs for it's modpacks

ugh

my tekkit server is lagging horribly

can't see if it's a problem in the game or turn off timers or anything because it's lagging so horribly

tried NoLagg's clearall all command, didn't do anything.

trying to download essentials to see if for some reason nolagg didn't actually clear items, but good luck downloading a file larger than five bytes with this crappy internet speed since mediacom is terrible and won't fix this ongoing issue

so there are about 200KB left in the .zip file and i'm downloading at around 3KB/s a whopping 1000B/s and steadily dropping so that's cool

finished downloading, somewhere along the line, the file got corrupted. wonderful.

since it seems so far to not be items spewing out from a delinquent pipe or something like that what are some other things that may cause it besides quarry water or something like that (we aren't doing extensive quarrying)

You're probably running GregTech or something. GregTech is the most evil thing ever and it overcomplicates everything.
