Faction-pvp servers suck cuz they remove 90% of the strategy/tactic of PVP. It's basically, get diamond gear, repeatedly kill enemy until they have low power and you can claim their land.

it all depends on how long you've been mining to get pieces of diamond armor and a sword and if you manage to have the same exact gear it's whoever can jump around like an idiot while clicking rapidly the most

No, that's the sum of Factions PVP. Minecraft vanilla has slightly more tactical play. W/ Mods it can be a lot different. Depending on the mod type, it varies.

I've never really done PVP before, actually. Instead of fighting I'd rig traps in everything, including fake TNT-packed houses and stuff. Asymmetrical warfare at its greatest.

I beat the other factions on viodestructo with barely any actual combat, it was all about tricking the enemy and blowing their base up, cutting off their supplies and infuriating them until they gave up.

This base was in the end, the entrance to the end was in that pure obsidian box. We got out of the box and destroyed the entire base with TNT cannons without getting killing anyone. This was after the initial attack and after they rebuilt, we later destroyed all of their farms and supplies and they gave up and left the server.
