minecraft kinda went downhill after curse took over minecraft forums
i disagree
with the game itself, i love some of the newer updates that have been coming out, notably the hoppers/comparators/command block features coming soon from snapshots, as well as the new creative menu in the current release. only downsides is server lag and the rather boring terrain gen.
the modding community has probably never gotten worse, like, ever. modding APIs such as forge are making mods easier to create, as well as making mod installation and distribution easier. the user only has to drop mods in the mods folder, and with this system, there are little to no mod conflicts. a lot of different tools such as MultiMC and Magic Launcher have made mod installation one of the easiest things ever, and mod packs like FTB and Tekkit bring the modded world to players with barely any extra effort.
i can't speak for the progression of the community itself as I haven't been very involved with it, but today, yeah, it's stuff. bunch of immature kids who think notch invented blocks and that anything remotely similar is a clone.
