4.5 and 3.5, actually
im pretty sure hes counting each half as a heart

Muskets, Flintlocks, and Blunderbusses would be a pretty cool mod in Minecraft imo

They could be balanced easily and I think the could be pretty interesting in PvP. They would be pretty expensive, with iron, gunpowder and whatnot. An iron ingot should be enough for 3-5 balls. They could also be degradble and able to be crafted out of other ores, like the rest of the tools.

They wouldn't be balanced because they would be mid range high damage weapons with low fire rate. You would be better off using a bow or sword. Guns would be seldom used.

The Bow has a high rate of fire, medium damage(uncharged), and arrows are fairly uncommon, material and crafting wise. Skeletons drop them often, though.

To compensate, the rate of fire of the Musket would be very low, taking between 4-10 seconds between each round. Rounds and gunpowder would be very limited (assuming you haven't farmed farmed for a while). The damage could be fairly high. Maybe break a wood/glass block on impact...? Accurate until 20-30 blocks(?)

The Flintlock would have a low-medium damage and take 3-5 seconds to reload. It could be inaccurate at ranges beyond 22 or so blocks.

The Blunderbuss would take a second or two longer than the musket to load, but does very high damage and is inaccurate beyond a range of 14 blocks. It fires multiple rounds to compensate.

I wouldn't know how a cannon would work exactly.

The point is that Bows and Guns would both have their pros and cons. Maybe bows would be used more, but Muskets would be pretty fun to use. Seldomly used or not.

Edit: They probably would be loud as hell, too. Also, I changed the ranges a bit.

They could scare off nearby passive mobs, maybe.

You know they already have a mod for that right?

It includes other melee weapons like halberds, battlesaxes, warhammers, and a placeable cannon.

Also you can mount a bayonet on the musket too.

Simple - Take a musket and a sword or several loaded guns lol

Plus you don't need to charge up guns to fire like bows do.

Bow having a high rate of fire? Unless the person is right infront of you, that's bullstuff. This isn't Minecraft alpha anymore.

Whoops, I meant medium rate of fire, with little charge.

orly

I should check that out and see if its any good.

This is a good idea. If animals panic near the range of fire, it would be like real life, when animals would try to run away from gun-fire.

Fred do you understand that you're saying that the stats you're giving the musket are unbalanced?

Unless you're referring to specific stats, you can't say that a concept is unbalanced.

I think blocking should have a 85% chance to block all damage, but also decreasing its durability.

Muskets, historically, are slow to load, have shorter range than a bow, and do a lot of damage. Anything that doesn't fit that would not functionally be a musket.

Instead of adding stuff like "moar gunz" they should fix the terrain that they ruined.

As far as balancing a musket goes, it could be balanced easily. It would be high ranged damage, but it needs to be reloaded after every shot, it takes awhile to reload, and the ammunition is expensive.

And if you want to make it a tad more realistic, you could have it where the muskets aren't very accurate, effectively balancing out the power with inefficiency. A well-timed shot could knock out a large chunk of health, but you would also be vulnerable after shooting it, and it would take a couple of seconds to get another shot off... And even then the next shot could just as easily miss.

It would be useful as a weapon to use when catching a player off guard, such as shooting him while he stops for whatever reason then jumping at him with a sword.

Of course, the bow already does a lot of damage; even more than a diamond sword! (A bow hits for nine hearts, fully charged. A diamond sword does seven.)
Everyone assumes you can only carry one loving musket.

If you're carrying around six loaded muskets there's a serious design flaw going on. You shouldn't need to carry around more than one musket. Imagine fighting a guy with a bow, you'd be dead if you didn't kill him before you use all your shots.
