Wow, that looks really nice. Hopefully they add more colorful biomes. The clay biome was a step in the right direction.

That is a biome map used to check generation, although that probably isn't finalized in how they end up. It looks like AMIDST, although I spoke to the developer and he says Jeb could have remade his setup. He also says AMIDST has been open source, so Jeb could have modified from that, but in any case it doesn't matter to him.

Are those rivers separating biomes? Damn, son.

They look like they would make good nation borders.

That has been in Minecraft for a while now. Rivers are their own biomes and can both cross through biomes and make up their edges depending on generation.

Some of them don't even look like they even arrive at the ocean or a lake.

They never had, likely since the complexity of assuring such attributes might be problematic and impossible in some cases, preventing them for large areas players may wish to witness them. We don't need real world logic.

They need to change the biome generation so that jungles and taigas do not spawn right next to deserts. That is the one thing that's been bothering me.

I'm sure that's one thing they are addressing, since they are centralizing the update on biome generation. If they spread out working on biomes, they'd get in a lot more trouble. This is only the beginning on the update, too.

Also, Jeb showed a new biome:

Naturally spawning surface mossy cobblestone without being part of rarer generated structures. Oh boy.

Oh
My
God
Brown leafy grass thing :o

I like the way that this is going.

1.7.2 changelog:

-Added new biome
-Made entirely of Diamond Blocks, Emerald Blocks, Sponge, and Glowstone
-Spawns Quartz Temples with chests containing Bedrock, Beacons, and Command Blocks
   -Stronghold spawns above-ground

Tried to make a piston elevator in SMP, obviously did not turn out too well

You lag when you're going down and end up smashing into the ground and you lag when you're going up and get trapped after going up 5 blocks

Hoping I can put some delay on it, it didn't matter going down but maybe it'll help going up, would be a waste of 2 hours and however long it would take to tear down

I swear to god making Piston Elevators in SMP is the biggest pain in the world.

Those look to be a new, third time of layered ground block. We have grass, mycelium, and now what looks to be leaf-layered ground. The pattern of the ground is different and closer to fallen leaves, and you can see normal grass and grass blocks there without biome coloration (yet).

Or maybe, like how snow works, it's a grass covering.

The new grass block is Podzol.  source

Behaves like mycelium - grass can't spread on it
Can be harvested using Silk Touch

Right now podzol is the reference name, although he believes that will end up the official name. Picking up with silk touch is an assumption, although also probably going to happen. There will also be a special dirt block... Seems dirt is being given sub categories like grass, mycelium, and podzol to make it easier on their side? Still the same blocks, but they are subdivisions of dirt now? I'm trying to understand what he meant by this:

There's also a "no grass" dirt block looking like normal dirt, but it's not obtainable without using /give (using data value 1).

...What is this feeling I have!?

Could it be...
anticipation for a Minecraft update?

Whaaaat?

I'm trying to understand what he meant by this:

There's going to be a dirt block that grass can't grow on, for map makers I would assume.

Ohhh, that makes... sense... sorta... It sort of makes sense. I guess if you want dirt paths adjacent to grass. But I don't see an abundance of situations that would be useful. Still nice.

Would it become "normal" dirt after you've tilled and trampled over it?

He hasn't said yet. If it is a unique block (in a way), it might not even be able to be tilled.
