That's iron, you need to use a stone pickax or better to get it. You will then need to make a forge and use some coal/wood to smelt it into bars to be used as tools.

A creeper was walking around during the day. I was confused, until I realized a massive cloud blocked out the sun, and there was more fog than usual (this might not be correct). Anyway, it seems if a cloud blocks the sun, creepers can survive the day.

Just realized, at night it's get your stuff and get the forget home. Seriously, i've been attacked by pretty much everything. I have to climb up a mountain to get to my house, too.

creepers dont die in sunlight, only skeletons and zombies do.

i run around with solid gold armor and a steel sword and I still get constantly assraped by skeletons.

in fact, I don't even mind creepers any more, skeletons are loving starfishs.

gold is as effective as wood for using as anything.
