Not sure exactly, but I think you can turn them off by just using a switch next to them. You can remove the switch. Haven't tested this but I'm sure it works.

Use that trap, but put it directly over a pool of water, and have the TNT and player drop into that water.
The TNT will explode without breaking any bricks.
