Finally people can stop calling it thermite.

Who the forget would think it's thermite even though thermite can burn at temperatures of 1000+ kelvin and the redstone doesn't burn?

NO
NONO

Put it on hard like a man and all of a sudden a skeleton guy spawned almost on top of me :C

Monsters are afraid of me except in my newer game. They dare not attack me in my cave fortress. I literally, on hard, see no monsters. Not even in the dark parts of my cave.

REDSTONE MAGAloving DUST

Notch should make it so that when you hold a torch to place it, it illuminates your surroundings :o

Unless a moveable light source isn't possible yet, I think I read that somewhere.

The lighting from the movable torch would be very choppy. The lighting is on a grid, the player is not.

Multiplayer progress update, and Minecraft Alpha 1.0.3

Getting the levels to support more than one player turned out to be a bigger rewrite than I thought. There was a surprising amount of level.getPlayer() calls, so I added a level.getNearestPlayer(x, y, z), which worked great as a substitute for most of the calls.
Another issue was the tile polling. In the original version, tiles between two players would get polled twice as frequently as tiles only near a single player. This also affected the mob spawner code. The solution there was to build a set of all unique chunks near players, which turns out to be handy when I do the memory caching of terrain data anyway.

I haven’t actually implemented any multiplayer support in the client yet, but I did do some work on it, which leads up to version 1.0.3:

* The pathfinder now works for hills. Except for spiders. Of course.
* Generally more convincing mob idling behavior. They’ll stand still more, looking around at their surroundings
* Monster sounds
* Ambient cave noises

Tomorrow is Thursday, then it’s Seecret Friday time, so it doesn’t seem like I’ll have anything testable this week.

:D

I started a new save in hopes to find some red stuff. When I spawned, I some very larges hills going over the clouds. I found a nice little small cave to set up my home. After I got all set up with a work bench and a wood pickax, I go out exploring. I find some holes in the ground and go down them. It turns out, the large hills are right above an extensive system of tunnels with tons of iron, coal, and some gold.

tl:dr
I found some awesome hills with a very large tunnel system.

This is now the scariest game i have ever played.

Notch gives us way too many reasons to have an extra pair of pants lying around.

what are those programs you guys use to screw around on alpha?

This project im working on is kicking my ass.
