MineEdit is a lot friendlier for editing your inventory. Download the binaries if you want it.

Monsters might be able to ride carts. Notch also plays the game on a Mac.

Also diving helmets and being able to wear buckets on your head mentioned. You will eventually be able to crouch. You will not be able to explore space. When the game goes from alpha to beta there will be a one week warning beforehand so you can hurry up and get your discount.
