Not really, brimstone is like using a torch. It has its own light source.

Yarly, mine some bloodstone and use flint and steel and voila. (For use with torch update)

Solution to portals in distant locations:

Compass.

okay now some people apparently in the minecraft forum community are trying to get people to rename

bloodstone and brimstone to hellstone and lightstone  but it won't happen cause brimstone and bloodstone are the Official file names

It's not a bad thing at all. You're not always suppose to teleport near an open area near lava.

Nu, the only place Brimstone is common is up in the sky. You can't find it everywhere, like you can flint and bloodstone. Steel be an exception.

also bloodstone has the common trite of 'burning forever' that we need for lanterns so it makes WAYY more since to use that in the crafting  table

don't worry i've been talking to the wiki people about getting those names reinstated also the dust is called sulfur dust  not brimstone dust for some reason

True. I actually just thought of something. If you appear in a cave, try digging down. Maybe you'll find lava or ground, who knows.

I made a special room for my portal but I'm too scared to go in it unless on peacefull. The noises from "Nether" mobs are creepy. Will post pics.
