When on peaceful, at least for me (idk about other difficulties) mobs would appear for a split second but then disappear because of the difficulty

Well, I had a break from minecraft for awhile and apparently stuffs going down with squids, black sheep and strangely coloured trees.

So i just loaded up a new world to see how lost i could get in a cave and unfortunately, i came upon this beauty, and then i thought "I can't dig this apart, it's the best randomly generated terrain i've ever seen!"
