NOT a bug. If some things are within 2 blocks of a lava lake they will spawn fire on them. I'm guessing because lava is HOT.

i think it might be because of the sparks that fly out

List of reasons why not to build in a dense forest:

1 - Darkness = Creepers
2 - Fire...
3 - Space; lack of.

I just became victim n of number 2. Do NOT build a wooden house in a forest when there's a lava pit on the other side.
