When I make my new main world after 1.8's out, I may make a small/efficient mob trap for my city's needs.

Nothing gigantic that makes over one hundred thousand, that's insane.

you should just make a small one that makes just enough.

When I hit the ground beneath me, a block of sandstone pushed me off, and I was falling to my death.

I managed to hang onto a block in the center, watching as thousands of my comrades died all around me.

I was terrified.

I've begun to plan an escape, but I fear I cannot save anyone else.

This machine is an ungodly horror.
It's not even a trap, it's some sort of wicked farm.
A farm that ignores moral concerns coming with forcing helpless mobs down a chute to their deaths at birth, for their remains to be collected by a greedy farmer so he can turn survival into naught but a trivial thing.
