sprinting needs hunger, so unless lesser difficulties have unlimited sprinting, I find this hard to believe

no, hunger is optional on all levels, sprinting requires hunger, and when you hunger bar is full your health will regenerate.

well, the idea of xp was added to give a reason to keep playing, i think that xp will be used to give the player perks that can be activated as opposed to things like faster mining.
