In Bionicle there were lightstones.  Before the tooltip update they were called lightstones.  I prefer to call them as such, just like I still call "sugar cane" reeds.

I call them lightstones just cause of Bionicle though.

I find minecraft very midevalish. The only gun I find fitting is something like a Musket, Blunderbuss, or a cannon.

You can also make an obsidian TNT cannon with 2 TNT blocks, one explodes and ignites and "shoots" the other TNT to blow something/someone to kingdom come.
