If you ever need a new one, start up dwarf fortress and then embark and use the name it picked for your fort.

Can you host?

Has anyone ever tried quarry mining? If so, how effective is it? I'm debating whether or not I should use it as my new mining technique. I've been branch mining at layer twelve for ages now.

for me simply finding and exploring caves has been most productive for me

you get ores without having to fill your inventory with seven lifetimes worth of cobblestone while wasting your picks like hell

only problem is getting lost but can be easily avoided with certain navigational techniques

and there are monsters too but hey, bonemeal, string, sulfur, etc.

i've tried quarry mining and branch mining and they both have never gotten me as much stuff as cavesploring

i think the main problem with caves is that they branch too often. my technique of putting the torches on the right hand side of the cave, then following the left torches back can get forgeted up with things such as caves that loop into each other, caves that intersect multiple times at large chasms, and caves that have multiple large rooms in their center. not to mention how there's always the "i'd like to get back to my house, but i want to explore more" factor. anyway, i prefer exploring a cave with friends while stripmining in single player.

At this point, they move into joking about Minecon, saying they threw kids through reinforced concrete walls.
