Author Topic: Minecraft Megathread; yeah its update 1.12 big whoop what about it  (Read 7012367 times)

It's a sandbox game. Let people play it the way they want to.

People have been using AI as one of the main points against Minecraft forever. If it means shutting them up, forget "mob grinders." I've never had to even learn about them. Something about killing mobs automatically in a cheating-type fashion.

not cheating in the slightest. it's exploiting what they are meant to do. you know. swim up.

:U The point is people want "mob grinders" to work, sacrificing progress with actual AI. Jon should be hired to fix their "NI."

people will always find ways to make mob grinders.

"factories" are a big part of minecraft.

I'm perfectly okay with people making mob grinders on their SSP worlds, they're cheating nobody but themselves. I start to have problems with them when they use mob grinders on SMP, hoarding tons of gunpowder or whatever they need and making themselves ultra powerful with no work.

It isn't really cheating because a really good mob grinder takes time and lots of resources to make, and most of the stuff mobs drop has very limited use.

Already been said, but multiplayer. Someone who has infinite tnt without ever fighting a creeper isn't good.

that means TYLALE'S OPINION SUCKS
My opinion doesn't suck, but even if it did its still fact.

It takes  a little bit of cobblestone and some water minimum. How is that a lot of resources?

If you want to make a large one like some of the ones here, you need a lot, but smaller ones don't take much.

when you build a mob grinder you DO have infinite drops, but the speed at which those drops actually works is very limited. for instance, if i build a regular dark room mob grinder, i may spawn 5 mobs in 10 minutes. the chance of that mob being a creeper is 1 out of 4. that's 1:3 odds. imagine this went on for about an hour and i had no use for arrows/bones/rotten meat/string/spidereye. i would have roughly 10 gunpowder (if i take the time to stand under the grinder for the exp). 10 gunpowder equates to 2 tnt. and remember, we aren't incorporating creepers that DON'T drop gunpowder, so it's possible to go for an hour, get 5 creepers and get no tnt.

The point is new AI would avoid old fashion mob grinders and saying "We want them stupid so these work" is annoying to say the least.

there's always a way to get mobs killed. even though the avoid old fashioned mob grinders, remember, we have pistons. the machinery we can build with pistons, water, and simple machines is infinite.

What I'm thinking about is, when Jon first began working on the mob AI, he responded to a tweet requesting he not change the AI too much so their mob grinders would still work. He said he'd keep it as similar as he could. That's really stupid - the point is to improve the AI. That means they would probably be smarter against mob traps even if they don't know it's directly set up. You guys know other methods, I'm just saying don't make the AI suffer for it.

Making mob grinders take a stuffload of time and resources to make, and I don't think they want to waste some of their customers time.

First castle project started with a circle, eventually the layout turned into this:

The result of building it was this.

Scrapped because of snow update in 1.0.

Newest project starting with this:

In-game layout turned into this so far:

going to completely dedicate myself to this.
It'll basically be a tall-walled in city.
like, three layers of walls going upwards.
it might sort of resemble Minas Tirith, but not really.
Oh, and the weird arrow thing on the left is where the entrance/exit of the Airship carrier will be

The diameter of the circle is 175 blocks

I'd wait until when jungles come in, so you can incorporate them into the build if any spawn nearby.
