I found the trick. I found the trick to get resourceful in a very short amount of time.

1. Do not spend the time to make a home.
2. Explore all of the caves you see. If you run out, go look for more.
3. Do not even accomplish a specified "house" in a cave or something. Pack everything with you. Do this until;
4. Your inventory gets full. (At this point you will be resourceful)
5. Finally, make a house. And still go out generating new chunks, and finding caves. This also gives you a good chance of finding a stronghold.

I got a stack of iron in two MC days. And found cocoa beans. I believe this is how you play minecraft if you like adventure.
