Best portal spawn of all time

i once spawned inside of a stronghold.

I'm not sure if it was an SMP-exclusive bug or not, but on a factions server during 1.2.5 Nienhaus and I claimed a nether stronghold and I built a new portal in one of the wart farm rooms. I went through it and spawned a good 20 or so blocks over a seemingly endless ocean. I wasn't worried about someone using it, so I just left it on and never stepped back through that one.

smp has a different nether system. i'm also pretty sure that making a new portal in the nether will transport you to a new portal in the overworld. i heard somewhere it's like fast travel, every block in the nether is 18 blocks in the overworld or something.

It is, and it's actually 8 I believe. Building a portal in the nether makes a matching one on the surface, but it seems to have issues with properly aligning it with the terrain sometimes.

i think it puts the portal on the corresponding elevation. i've been to servers where there are nether hotspots where there are tons of nether portals floating around.

Then how can they pass through a 1 and a half block opening if they are over one and a half blocks tall?

I was trying to make a cow farm that operates like a chicken farm, but the cows kept escaping and i couldnt get just the baby cow to leave. THey also can fall through 1x1 holes apparently.
