Invisibility potion was in the first few 1.4 snapshots. So is night vision, which is useful underground.

You are 100% invisible. But anything you're wearing or holding isn't. AKA can't wear armor or holding something. However, since mob heads can be of any player you want, you could use invisibility to fix the glitchiness, wear armor, and pretend to be that person from a distance.
